Atlanta, the capital of Georgia is best known as the economic center of the south and the site of the 1996 Summer Olympics. The city attracts millions of domestic and foreign tourists with its world-class attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium and The World of Coca-Cola as well as numerous fine museums and art galleries, luxurious restaurants and shopping malls, impressive skyscrapers, lively nightlife and rich culture which truly offer something for everyone all year round.

Both premium Atlanta's attractions - the Georgia Aquarium and The World of Coca-Cola are found at the Centennial Olympic Park. The Georgia Aquarium is the world's largest aquarium with a collection of over 100,000 fish and other sea creatures of 500 species from all over the world. Not far from the Georgia Aquarium is The World of Coca-Cola offering complete and fun historic overview of the world-famous soft drink and its advertising. If already being in the Centennial Olympic Park you should also take time to visit the CNN headquarters located next to the park.

Atlanta visitors who interested in history will like the Atlanta History Center, one of the premier history museums in the country. There you can find the world's largest collection of civil war artifacts, Swan House and Tullie Smith Farm, and the Centennial Olympic Games Museum. The Atlanta History Center also owns Margaret Mitchell House and Museum dedicated to Margaret Mitchell, the author of the Pulitzer price winning novel Gone with the Wind.

The city of Atlanta was also home to the famous civil right movement leader Martin Luther King, Jr. You can learn more about his life and legacy at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site consisting of several buildings including his boyhood home, the church where he pastored and his final resting place. Other history museums and historic houses in Atlanta worth visiting include the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum, Rhodes Memorial Hall, and Jimmy Carter Library and Museum.

If you like arts you will also like the High Museum of Art housing an impressive collection of over 11,000 artworks which also includes several important European artworks. Worth visiting are also the Fox Theatre, the Atlanta Ballet, the Atlanta Opera and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. If you have your kids along, you should take time to visit the Fernbank Museum of Natural History which amongst other also features a 123-feet (37 meters) long Argentinosaurus (the largest dinosaur ever found) or Zoo Atlanta which is one of the few zoos in the United States housing the giant panda. Another great place for the entire family is the Atlanta Botanical Garden, a 30 acre (12 hectare) botanical garden featuring a garden for children.

Whether you have come to Atlanta for shopping or not you should not miss the Underground Atlanta, a complex of charming old-fashioned retail stores, restaurants and bars in the Five Points district.
